Facilities Assistant

Job description

Rhode Island Office of the Postsecondary Commissioner seeks a facilities assistant for Westerly Education Center, its workforce training and postsecondary education center located at 23 Friendship Street in Westerly.

The facilities assistant will assist with facility maintenance, equipment repair, waste removal, and overall building safety for two locations. The successful candidate will perform duties to provide facility and maintenance services as described below:

  • Monitoring the safety and cleanliness of interior and exterior areas, such as the tool crib, hands-on training areas, parking lots, and outdoor spaces
  • Performing routine maintenance on facilities and making repairs as directed
  • Assist with maintaining day-to-day operations of facilities
  • Assisting the facilities coordinator with reports to the director on maintenance, repairs, and safety-related issues
  • Assisting with facility preparation as it relates to changing weather conditions
  • Collaborating with management on budgeting for facilities
  • Assisting with inventory management of tools, equipment, PPE, and cleaning supplies
  • Ability to perform minor tool repairs
  • Analyzing and identifying faults or problems in equipment and machinery and assist with scheduling the appropriate vendors to complete repairs
  • Assisting with vendor coordination for maintenance and repairs of facilities and equipment as directed
  • Assisting with daily cleanliness of both facilities
  • Assisting with the set-up of meeting rooms to accommodate client requests.
  • Providing excellent customer, client, student, faculty and vendor relations
  • Assisting with transportation of waste to the local transfer station and scrap metal to the local recycling facility
  • Serving as the back up to the facility coordinator in his/her absence
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Minimum Job Requirements
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience: Mechanical experience preferred

Must possess a valid driver’s license
Must pass a criminal background check

This is a part-time, non-union position with work hours of Monday to Friday. The pay rate is $20/hour, and hours worked shall not exceed 19 hours per week.
