Financial Aid Navigator

Job Overview
RI Office of the Postsecondary Commissioner seeks to hire a financial aid navigator. This position is responsible for providing assistance to students applying for state financial aid to attend one of the three public Rhode Island higher education institutions (CCRI, RIC, URI). The financial aid navigator will help students complete the application form, maintain records, and distribute the completed application to the appropriate school who will then determine the awards for each student.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Engage with students, prospective students and their families applying for state financial aid
- Monitor the application mailbox and respond to questions in a timely manner
- Confirm receipt of digital and hard copy application submissions
- Determine if all required documents are submitted and if the application is complete
- Assist financial aid officers at each college/institution in supporting applicants and tracking materials
- Assist school counselors representing student applicants
- Maintain digital office hours accessible to high school students and working adults
- Keep detailed records and documentation on individual applicants
- Assist in maintenance of application files and tracking systems
- Maintain compliance with state regulations
Education/Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 3-5 years of experience in a professional setting. With 1-2 years of experience working with students, preferably in financial aid, higher education, or related field
- Able to understand and comply with federal, state, and institutional programs and their requirements
Special Requirements
- Must be able to work in Providence at least one day a week
- Some local travel may be required
- Some evening and weekend availability is required
This is a temporary, part-time, nonunion, nonclassified position. The employment length is January to October (possibly renewed yearly). The financial aid navigator reports to the director of P20 readiness and transition, and the pay rate is $25/hour. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
